Frozen Vortex! Frost DK Macros for WoW: The War Within
Macros
This macro set is designed for the Frost Death Knight, and it does not restrict you to any specific Hero Talent tree—you can use either DEATHBRINGER or RIDER OF THE APOCALYPSE. The key focus here is the Breath of Sindragosa playstyle, which adapts to M+, Raid, or PvP depending on your talents. I consider this a “universal macro set”—please read on to master it quickly.
Basic Rotation Macro
This is Frost DK’s basic damage-dealing macro when not in the Breath of Sindragosa window. Holding a modifier key (alt/shift/ctrl) will cast Howling Blast. Otherwise, the macro will execute the following sequence.
You might wonder—why cast Frost Strike before Obliterate? Doesn’t this risk running out of resources? Good question—the answer is simple: this macro is meant to pair with the opener macro below.
Opener Macro
This opener macro executes: Howling Blast → Remorseless Winter → Death and Decay → Obliterate → Reaper's Mark. It resets in 3 seconds to allow reactivation. The purpose is to immediately apply Frost Fever, build resources, and cast Reaper's Mark if you're using DEATHBRINGER. If you're using RIDER OF THE APOCALYPSE, please remove Reaper’s Mark from the sequence.
After the final cast in the sequence, the macro enters a “null” state—essentially inactive with no GCD, which allows Horn of Winter to be cast seamlessly if talented.
Also, Pillar of Frost is auto-cast when using this macro to boost your damage.
Use cases: Pair with the basic rotation macro during non-burst windows, or pair with the burst macro below to prep your Breath phase.
Breath of Sindragosa Burst Macro
This is Frost DK’s signature 2-minute burst. After using the opener macro, activate this one to enter the Breath of Sindragosa window. Then, repeatedly cast Obliterate to maintain the effect.
You should occasionally weave in Howling Blast if it’s highlighted due to a proc, and if Remorseless Winter comes off cooldown, reuse the opener macro. This rotation helps extend Breath duration beyond 30 seconds.
If you’ve never tried Breath of Sindragosa builds, refer to the combat log image below for my personal usage pattern:
Abom Limb + Frostwyrm's Fury
This simple macro combines two long-CD abilities into one button for better control and keybind economy.
Survivability Macro
By default, this macro uses Anti-Magic Shell to block magical damage. Hold alt to cast Anti-Magic Zone on yourself. Hold shift to activate Icebound Fortitude for defense.
Finally, the Breath of Sindragosa playstyle is not difficult. As long as you consistently weave in energy-efficient abilities while casting Obliterate, you’ll deliver strong performance with ease.
