Boom! Survival Hunter Macros for WoW: The War Within
Macros
This article introduces a set of Survival Hunter macros for World of Warcraft: The War Within. These macros are designed for general use and work with both the Pack Leader and Sentinel Hero Talent trees. That said, I highly recommend using Pack Leader, as it currently represents the meta build for Mythic+ content.
There are a few essential talent requirements—particularly on the right side of the tree—to ensure compatibility with these macros. You’ll need to spec into Mongoose Bite, Flanking Strike, Fury of the Eagle, Coordinated Assault, and Explosive Shot. With those selected, the following macros should function properly regardless of your chosen Hero Talent tree.
Damage Rotation Macros (Action Bar Swapping)
The following three macros are designed as an action bar swap ("flip") rotation. Some players love this style; others don’t. Fans appreciate that it avoids the lockups caused by /castsequence
when energy runs dry. Detractors dislike that it consumes three action bar slots. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of this style either, but Wildfire Bomb and Kill Command are so inconsistent in their rotation that this becomes the best solution for Survival Hunters.
How to set it up: Create three macros in-game using /m
and copy each code below. Drag the Wildfire Bomb macro to an action bar slot (e.g., "1"). After using it, the bar will flip. Drag the Kill Command macro into the same exact slot on the new bar, and do the same with Kill Shot for the third macro. This setup lets you press a single key repeatedly to cast Wildfire Bomb → Kill Command → Kill Shot in order, skipping abilities on cooldown automatically.
Initially, I planned a Wildfire Bomb → Kill Command → Mongoose Bite cycle, but that led to issues when both Wildfire Bomb and Kill Command were on cooldown—Mongoose Bite usage would spike, draining focus and harming overall efficiency. That’s why I’ve separated Mongoose Bite into the opener macro.

Manual Bar Reset
If you've left combat and need to control your mount or start flying, you can use the following macro command to manually return to Action Bar 1:
/changeactionbar 1
Opener & Burst Macro
This macro prioritizes cooldowns by spell priority. It opens with Mongoose Bite, so you can spam it during downtime while Wildfire Bomb and Kill Command are on cooldown. The reset=2 ensures Mongoose Bite is recast often. Combined with the rotation macros above, this covers nearly all of Survival Hunter’s DPS needs.
The macro also includes all core burst cooldowns—Explosive Shot, Flanking Strike, Fury of the Eagle, and Coordinated Assault—as well as trinkets and Tempered Potion. During Fury of the Eagle, be sure to continue pressing the macro or Coordinated Assault might not trigger due to reset timing. Holding a modifier key (alt/shift/ctrl) will cast Harpoon for fast gap closing.
Survivability Macro
This macro is identical to the one we shared for Marksmanship Hunters. Both specs have the same core defensive toolkit, so no changes are needed. By default, pressing it twice activates Survival of the Fittest and Exhilaration to instantly heal and fortify yourself. It also fires Bursting Shot to knock enemies back. Holding alt casts Freezing Trap + Disengage to escape from a single enemy, while holding shift casts Binding Shot at your cursor to AoE crowd control nearby mobs.
